Eunice Modica Smith, 83, of Nederland, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. Born in Waskom, Texas to Josephine Zuccarello and Pete Modica, she was the last of eight children born, and a resident of the Mid-County area most of her life. She was retired as a PBX operator with Lamar University. Eunice devoted her entire life to family. She was loving, compassionate, and merciful to everyone and never turned anyone away that was in need.
She is survived by her four sons, Charles Smith and his wife, Renee of Beaumont, Jerry Smith and his wife, Glenda of Orange, Sam Smith and his wife, Suzanne of Beaumont and Tommie Smith of Beaumont; grandchildren, Slade Smith, Lacey Liner, Jeremy Smith, Jared Smith, Jamie Smith, Jessica Smith, Amy Smith, Sammy Smith, Tosha Smith, Jessica Smith of Houston; and sixteen great grandchildren.
Eunice is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Josephine Modica; sons, Pete Smith and Joseph Smith; brothers, Sam, Tommie, Cero, Joe, and John Modica; and sisters, Antoinette Maybou and Mary Bayard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2011, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, with entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Port Arthur, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2011, with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m, at Broussard’s.
