Veda Jean Hatchel Duncan, 86, of Nederland, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011.  Born February 11, 1925, in Kaufman, Texas to Ada Jaco and Ralph Augustus Turner, she was a resident of the Mid-County area since 1951 and retired as a loan officer with Neches Title Company.  She attended Hillcrest Baptist Church and was a charter member.

Jean is survived by her husband, Don Duncan of Nederland; son, Ralph Leon Hatchel and his wife, Denise of Port Arthur; daughter, Reba Hatchel Baliles and her husband, Mark of Harleysville, Pennsylvania; sons, Gary Duncan and his wife, Pat of Beaumont, John Duncan and his wife, Pam of Kailua, Hawaii, Bruce Duncan of Nederland, and Steve Duncan of Groves; daughters, Penny Wharton and her husband, Bob of Weaverville, North Carolina, and Nellie Lewis of Rockhill, South Carolina; grandchildren, Jason, Lucas, Jessica, Caris, Erin, Seth, Noah, Chris, Jeff, Rachael, Scott, Josh, Mike; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2011, at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland.  A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 15, 2011, at Broussard’s. A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September, 17, 2011, at College Mound Cemetery, near Terrell, Texas.
