Alvin Grimes, 80, of Silsbee died Saturday, September 10, 2011, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.

Alvin was a long time resident of Hardin county and he worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for thirty-seven years before retiring. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Alvin is survived by his children, Gina Acevedo and her husband, Lee of Lumberton and Troy Grimes and his wife, Stacie of Mont Belvieu; grandchildren, Tolivar Grimes, Rylie Grimes, Nick Acevedo and his wife, Joanie, Bubba Acevedo and his wife, Lisa, and Aaron Acevedo and his wife, Ashli; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy McMillian of Nacogdoches; and his best friend and companion, Mary Musgrove.

Alvin is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Mooney Grimes; parents, Troy and Elizabeth Grimes; and sister, Nelda Mitchell.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road at Highway 96 bypass in Silsbee, with burial to follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Vidor. A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, September 12, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Broussard’s in Silsbee.
