Robert Wayne Shirley, 72, of China died Saturday, September 3, 2011, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth. He was born February 11, 1939, in Colorado to Billie Pady Shirley and Gus Shirley and was a lifelong resident of China. He was a retired asphalt contractor and United States Marine Corps veteran having served in the Phillipines. Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, Jeanette Shirley of China; sons, Victor and Ching Shirley and Jeffrey and Sandra Shirley both of China; father, Gus Shirley of Zwolle, Louisiana; grandchildren, Erin Shirley, Christine Shirley, Mason Shirley, Raiden Shirley, David Kendrick, and Ashly Work; two great grandchildren; sister, Karen Walker and her husband, Tim of Mauriciville; special brother, Bob Calverley and his wife, Mary of Aurora, Missouri; and special in-laws, Perry and Loretta Crane. He is preceded in death by his mother, Billie Shirley; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Henry and Delia Barnett; and sisters, Sybil Calverley and Daphne Webster. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont with interment to follow at China Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011, with a gathering of his family and friends to follow, at Broussard’s.
