Homer E. Nagel 
September 20, 1921 - August 24, 2011

Homer E. Nagel, 89, of Nederland, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011.  Born September 20, 1921 in Burkburnett, Texas to Myrtle Burnfin and Jacob F. Nagle, he was a resident of the Mid-County area since he was seventeen years old. A United States Army Veteran, Mr. Nagel retired from Neches Butane as an instrument supervisor after forty-three years of service and was former Mayor of Nederland. 

 

An active member of First United Methodist Church in Nederland, he enjoyed working in his yard and doing home carpentry.  Mayor Nagel loved city politics and community activities, but most of all he loved being involved with his family. 

 

Homer is survived by his daughters, Brenda Arnold and her husband, Claude of Bellaire, Texas and Jody Griffith and her husband, Randall of Nederland; grandchildren, David Mitchell, Stacey Willis and her husband, Brady, Jake Griffith and Brandy, and Katy Watson and her husband, Lance; and great grandchildren, Alexis Willis and Brady Willis IV. 

 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Nagel.

 

His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2011, at First United Methodist Church, Nederland, with burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland.  A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 26, 2011, at Broussard’s.
