Charles R. Black, 92, of Port Arthur, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at Cypress Glen Nursing facility in Port Arthur.  He was born September 26, 1918 in Texarkana to Rilla Stevens and Edward Everitt Black, and had been a resident of the Mid-County area for quite some time. Charles was a member of Masonic Lodge #935 in Brookeland, Texas and a lifetime member of the VFW. 

He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Ratliff of Las Vegas, Nevada, Marianne Martin and her husband, Ralph of Lumberton, and Kay Andrews of Houston; grandchildren, Allen Ratliff, Kenneth Ratliff, Jim Ratliff, Chuck VanWye, Stacey Frank; and six great grandchildren.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Rilla Black; wife, Mary Lee Barrett Black; and three sisters, Marion Bodiford, Edna Merle Goolsby, and Frankie Armstrong.

A graveside service will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Evergreen Cemetery, Main Street at Morris Street, Jasper, Texas 75951, with burial to follow under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12 Noon, Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Broussard’s.
