Lorieta Johnson, 88, of Sour Lake, died Sunday, August 21, 2011, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Lorieta was born in Aransas Pass on August 27, 1922, to Francis Marion and Verna Lee (New) Cole. A homemaker, she had lived in Sour Lake since 1935 and was a member of Praise Chapel in Sour Lake.

She is survived by her children, Carolyn Alexander and husband Mickey of Sour Lake, Marilyn Brast of Bellville, Buddy Johnson of Beaumont and Michael Wayne Johnson of Sour Lake; brother, W. B. Cole of Vidor; sister, Darlene Chatham of Austin; grandchildren, Denise Thibodeaux and her husband, Steven, Dana Benson and her husband, Craig, Tonja Breaux and husband, Joey, Tammy Ables and her husband, Mike, Buddy Johnson, Jr., Jonathan Johnson, Rhonda Wehunt, Michael Johnson II, and Matt Johnson and his wife, Alicia; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents;  husband, Horace Johnson; brothers, Willard and Herbert Cole; sisters, Dealva Goings, Deola Cole, Yvonne Cole; and  son-in-law, Clinton R. Brast.

Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Praise Chapel, 790 6th Street, Sour Lake with burial to follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s, 530 W. Monroe, Kountze. A gathering of her family and friends will be Tuesday, August 23, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Broussard’s.
