Vester Maxwell “Mack” Hasson, Jr., 87, of Winnie died August 19, 2011, at the Arboretum Nursing Home of Winnie.

He was born on April 6, 1924, in Meridian, Mississippi and moved to the Winnie area in 1954. Mack served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and was owner of the Hasson Auto Parts in Beaumont for many years. He was a faithful and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had served as a missionary with his wife in Morristown, New Jersey. Mack loved ball room dancing, baking and decorating cakes and gardening; but far more important was his love for his family which he adored and his grandchildren he doted on.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty five years, Joye Wesson Hasson; sons, Vester M. Hasson, III and his wife, Jan Dubose Hasson all of Winnie; John A. Hasson and his wife, Rondee Vesterfelt Hasson of Orem, Utah; and B. Wes Hasson and his wife, Ruth Hilton Hasson of Winnie; brother, John B. Hasson and his wife, Gail of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; sister, Lillie Hughes of Meridian, Mississippi; grandchildren Ssgt. Max Hasson and his wife, Myndi, Coulter Hasson and his wife, Amy, Heather Walls and her husband, Gary, Ethan Hasson and his wife, Ashley, David Hasson, Linda Joye Barney and her husband, Andrew, April Draper and her husband, Dave, John Hasson, Jr. and his wife, Tuesdee, Kelley Kaye Hasson, Michelle Drew and her husband, Danny, Madison Hasson and his wife, Annie, Gary Hasson and his wife, Kay, Carly Hellickson and her husband, John, Devra Vierkant and her husband, David, Christian Vesterfelt and his wife, Rachael, Candice Andrus, Kari Munk and her husband, Jason, Jamie Vesterfelt, Stephanie Vesterfelt, Joscelyne Zaugg and her husband, Derrek, Daniel Hasson, Bill Sandford, Jr., and his wife, Natalie, Constance Sanford, Lt. Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Vester Maxwell Hasson, Sr. and Clara Naomi Bailey Hasson; grandchildren, Kriste Vesterfelt, Ian Vesterfelt and Gregory Sanford.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3939 Turtle Creek Drive, Port Arthur, Texas under the direction of Broussard’s, 134 W. Buccaneer Drive in Winnie. Graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery, Cemetery Rd., in Winnie. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2011, at Broussard’s.
