James "Gar" Garland Cluelow 
July 18, 1924 - August 19, 2011

James Garland “Gar” Cluelow, 87, of Port Arthur, died Friday, August 19, 2011, at Cypress Glen.  Born July 18, 1924, in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, to Ann Thorpe and Harry Cluelow, he was a resident of the area since 1954.

 

James served in the United States Army during World War II and retired from Gulf Oil as a maintenance supervisor after thirty-two years of service.  Prior to retirement, he served as United Way Chairman at Gulf Oil and owned the Port Arthur Hobby Center during the 1950’s and 1960’s. He was involved in the Port Arthur Optimist Club and had served as past Lieutenant Governor for the organization in Southeast Texas and a member of Griffin Park Citizen’s Patrol.  He was dedicated to his family and will be remembered as a loyal member of the community.

 

James is survived by his wife, Ivy White Cluelow; sons, James Gary Cluelow and his wife, Denise of Groves, P.W. Mark Cluelow and his wife, Judy of Port Neches; grandchildren, Tammy Danks and her husband, Scott, Jennifer Vickery and her husband, Paul, Chrissi Davis and her husband, Travis and Cori Cluelow; great grandchildren, Grant Danks, Jackson Vickery, Collyn Cluelow.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harry Cluelow, Jr.; sisters, Evelyn Sempsey, Lillian Pratt and Florence White.

 

His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 2425 Nall Street, Port Neches.  A gathering of his family and friends will be 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the church.
