Peggy Brammer, 83, of Beaumont, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Providence Medical Health Center in Waco. A native and lifelong resident of Beaumont, she was born to Esther Jane Perkins Darden and Robert Fulton Darden on March 3, 1928. Peggy married Chalmus Brammer in November of 1946 and they enjoyed a love affair for sixty-four years. After raising her children, Peggy earned her BA at Lamar University and Masters of Library Science at Sam Houston State University. She taught school for a short period and then settled into her favorite vocation – wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid gardener and loved her yard and her cats, Oreo and Tinker. Peggy also loved geology and had a true appreciation for the outdoors. She especially loved the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and the Texas hill country. She was an insatiable reader and her quest for knowledge was quite unique. She was very active in her church, Bethlehem Lutheran, and she and Chalmus volunteered for many years at Some Other Place. Peggy was a great wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her son, Chris Brammer and his wife, Joyce of Waco; granddaughter, Allison Debes of Beaumont; grandson, Cade Colby of Baton Rouge; brother, Colonel Robert F. Darden of Waco; nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death her husband of sixty-four years, Chalmus Brammer, who died in October 2010; her daughter, Susan Debes, who died in September 1991; and sister-in-law, Jo Ann Darden, who died in April of this year.
Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2011, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 777 North 4th Street, Beaumont with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2011, at Broussard’s and at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the church.
