Julia Kathleen Hayes Owens 
February 5, 1960 - June 27, 2011

Julia Kathleen Hayes Owens, born February 5, 1960, to Robert M. Hayes, Jr. and Mary Evelyn Hayes, died of complications from a liver transplant, Monday, June 27, 2011, at University of Texas Medical Branch Hospital in Galveston, Texas, at the age of 51.

 

Julia’s life was music.  She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in music education at Colorado State University and her Master’s from the University of Northern Colorado.  She was a member of the Larimer Chorale, directed the music programs of Trinity Lutheran Church Fort Collins, Colorado, First United Methodist Church Fort Collins, Colorado, and First United Methodist Church, Silsbee, Texas.  She was director of choral music at Loveland High School, where she was best known for her students’ musical theater performances of Les Miserables, Camelot, and Fiddler on the Roof.

 

Julia is survived by her father, Robert; her son, Jesse; her daughter, Sarah; her sister, Ann; and her brother, Howard. 

 

She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Evelyn and her sister, Carol.

 

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to First United Methodist Church, 670 North 5th Street, Silsbee, Texas  77656 for their gifts to Julia during her long fight.  A separate memorial service will be held for her family and friends in Colorado, date to be determined.   Cremation arrangements under the direction of Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.
