Gladis Marie Self, 86, of Nederland, Mother and Grandmother, was called home to be with the Lord, Monday, June 27, 2011.  Born February 24, 1925 in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Reader Goodwyn McKinzie and Earnest McKinzie.  

Marie retired from Nederland Independent School District after many years as cafeteria manager of Nederland High School.  She was a member of Nederland Order of Eastern Star #1029 and Nederland Home Extension.  She was a member of Stonegate Missionary Baptist Church for many years and loved her church.  Marie will be remembered as a devoted and faithful Mother, Grandmother, daughter, sister and friend.

She is survived by her daughter, Billye Sherrill and her husband, Kelton of Waller; son, James Self and his wife, Pat of Nederland; sister, Sally Hagler and her husband, Ray of Nederland; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband,  Floyd Self; and son, Charles Self.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland followed by burial at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County in Nederland.  A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday evening, June 29, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Broussard’s.
