Ouida Hebert Abercrombie, 96, of Beaumont and a resident of Sabine Oaks Nursing Center died peacefully on Monday, June 6, 2011. Ouida was the daughter of Felix and Cornelia Blanchette Hebert, born on August 21, 1914 in Beaumont. Being a devoted Catholic and loving mother, grandmother and sister, her faith and family were very important to her.
She is survived by two sons, Wally Curry and his wife, Joy of Houston and Joe Abercrombie of Palm Desert, California; daughter, Jackie Rhodes and her husband, James, of Vidor; sister, Billie Gafford of Beaumont; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Abercrombie; and nine of her ten siblings.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Sabine Oaks Nursing Center and Odyssey Hospice for their kindness and compassion towards Ouida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2011, at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 4445 Avenue A, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A gathering of her family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011 with a Christian Vigil at 6:00 p.m. at Broussard’s.
