Katie Fazio, 94, went to be with her Lord on June 1, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. Katie was born in Donna, Louisiana, on July 18, 1916, to Margaret and Pete Bruno. A long-time resident of Beaumont, Katie was an owner and operator of Pine Street Grocery and Tony's Drive In. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beaumont, Texas.
Mother Theresa once said, "Love begins by taking care of the closest ones - the ones at home." Katie's intense love for her family spilled over to all she came in contact with. Her daily actions were a direct reflection of how much she loved her family, friends, and, most importantly, her faith. Katie was an active member of her Catholic church. She was a true believer in the power of prayer, and could often be found saying the rosary. Year after year, she participated in numerous St. Joseph Altars throughout the diocese. That giving spirit radiated in all aspects of her life. Whether at the little league ballpark or at the Friday night card game, her dynamic personality was treasured by all. As the Italian matriarch of her family, she instilled a "family first" attitude in her children and grandchildren. This legacy she created will carry on for future generations to come. Her true passion for cooking fed all she met, both physically and spiritually. Katie's life was amazing, and her spirit will live on eternally.
Survivors include her sister, Anne Wilhelm of Vidor; sister-in-law, Antoinette Fazio Farnie of Boerne; daughters, Mary Fougeron and her husband, Glen of Cypress, Margaret Gibson and her husband, James of Beaumont; son, Sam Fazio and his wife, Rena; grandchildren, Tammy Bennett and her husband, Mike, Glen A. Fougeron of Hockley, Texas, Katie Bitar and her husband, Omar, Tony Gibson of Houston, Anthony Fazio and Margaret Anne Fazio; adorable great grandchildren, Katey and Libby Fougeron, Trey Benoit, and Gibson and Maggie Bitar; many nieces, nephews and friends.
