Ruth Adelle Nichols Coffey, 88, of Beaumont, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2011, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. She was born on June 29, 1922, in DeRidder, Louisiana, daughter of W.R. and Flossie Faye Nichols.
Following graduation from South Park High School she attended South Park Junior College. She married William B. “Ben” Coffey in 1945. Her beloved husband was laid to rest in 1975. Ruth was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church for fifty-seven years. During that time she enjoyed playing the piano for the children’s Sunday School. She volunteered many years at St. Elizabeth Hospital and John Gray Library.
Survivors include her four children, William “Bill” Coffey, Jr. of Beaumont, Pat Coffey of Flagstaff, Arizona, Charles Coffey of Boulder, Colorado and Christine Coffey Bistline of Bertram, Texas. Her family also included eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces including her four favorite Nichols boys from Beaumont.
Her graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Broussard’s.
