John Edwin “Scotty” Scott, 68, of Beaumont, died Monday, May 23, 2011, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.

Born January 4, 1943, in Port Arthur, to Doris Rodney Scott and Floyd Scott, John had been a resident of the Beaumont area all of his life.  He was an insulator with Local 22 and a United States Army veteran.

First Sergeant John Scott retired after a twenty-four year career in the United States Army and Texas Army National Guard.  Before accepting the promotion to First Sergeant of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery of the First Battalion of the 133rd Field Artillery Regiment, he was a highly respected Tactical Communications Chief.  His many awards included the United States Army Parachutists Badge, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Texas Faithful Service Medal, and Expert Rifleman Badge.

Survivors include his wife, Lindeth Stalsby Scott of Beaumont; daughter, Joy Scott of Plano; son, Michael Bridges of Austin; daughter Kimberly Smith and her husband, Robert of Beaumont; son, Timothy Bridges and his wife, Ileana of Groves; grandchildren, Michael Bridges, Jr., Lacey Bridges, Michelle Smith, Koby Bryant, Ryan Smith, Rebecca Bailey and her husband, Karl, Travis Bridges, Norlanv Wolf, and Jacob Carrillo and his wife, Angela; great-grandchildren, James Bailey, Joshua Bailey, and J.D. Carrillo; sister, Linda Demahy; and his niece, Melissa.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.  A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2011, at Broussard’s.  His graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston.
