Britton "Britt" E. Plunk 
May 10, 1947 - May 17, 2011

Britton E. Plunk, 64, of Silsbee died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.

 

A life long resident of Silsbee, Britt was a 1965 graduate of Silsbee High School.  He attended the University of Texas in Austin and then transferred to Lamar University receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1969.  He then attended South Texas College of Law where he received his Doctor of Jurisprudence.  He was admitted to the bar in 1973.  He worked at a private practice until 1977 when he joined the district attorney’s office in Hardin County.  That same year he married his high school sweetheart, the former Jan Ford.  His daughter, Catherine, was born in 1983, the same year he was elected as Hardin County attorney.  The State of Texas created the 365th District Court in 1985.  Judge Plunk was first appointed, then elected and continuously served in that capacity until his death.  Throughout his many years of public service, his commitment to his profession and his dedication to the people of Hardin County never wavered.

 

He is survived by his wife, Jan Plunk; daughter, Catherine Plunk-Mauer and her husband, Patrick; mother, Mona Britton Plunk all of Silsbee; and sister, Mary Susan Plunk of Elgin.

 

Britt is preceded in death by his father, Eddie R. Plunk.

 

A private family service will be held on Britt and Jan’s wedding anniversary, Friday, May 20, 2011, with a public memorial service at a later date.
