Joyce Delahoussaye Broussard, 79 years, daughter of Paul J. Delahoussaye and Albertine Cormier was born in Sulphur, Louisian on July 21, 1924, one of six children in the family. When her dad was hired at Smith Bluff Refinery in Nederland two weeks after Joyce’s birth, the family first moved to Nederland and then to Port Neches where the last two children were born. Joyce attended school at St. Elizabeth’s (called St. Catherine’s at that time) and then Port Neches Elementary. She went to work at Winston Brothers (then Texas-U.S.) in 1944 where she met Edwin S. Broussard from Erath, Louisiana. They married on February 3, 1944. She was a loving wife for some fifty-nine years

Joyce passed away, Friday, April 2, 2004 at Park Place Medical Center in Port Arthur. She had been a resident of the Nederland/Port Neches area most of her life. Joyce was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Parish in Port Neches where she opened the church for Mass every day for fifty years until she became ill; a member of the Altar Society for many years, a Eucharistic Minister, the Bereavement Committee, and a friend of all. Joyce was retired from Port Neches Elementary School after eighteen years of service in the Custodial Department. She will be missed by all her friends

A gathering of family and friends will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2004 at Broussard’s Mortuary, 505 12th. Street, Nederland, with a Christian Vigil at 5:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Reverend Bennie Patillo officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus Council # 2461.


Survivors include her husband, Edwin S. Broussard of Port Neches; four sons, Preston J. Broussard and wife, Dorothy of Toledo Bend, John Wallace Broussard of St. Marie, Idaho, Jerry Wayne Broussard of Port Neches, T-Paul Joseph Broussard of Groves; one daughter, Janice Hardman and husband, Ed of Fernwood, Idaho; two grandsons, Joshua Broussard of Port Neches, David Fontenot of Idaho; two granddaughters, Tabitha Broussard of Denison, Felicia Broussard of Port Neches; two great grandsons; one brother, Donald A. Delahoussaye and wife, Peggy of Nederland; one sister, Bea Dorsey and husband, Joe of Port Neches; and special friends, Jan Broussard of Port Neches and Lisa Boland of Groves.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Paul J. Delahoussaye and Albertine Cormier Delahoussaye and brothers and their wives, Paul O’Neal and Enid Delahoussaye, James D. and Marguerite Delahoussaye, John Wallace Delahoussaye,
