James Buford Allen, 81, of Brookeland, Texas, formerly of Fannett, Texas died Thursday, April 28, 2011.  He was born July 24, 1929, in Hopkins County, Texas to Bert and Pauline Allen. Buford graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1948, and was an electrician for the IBEW Local 479 for fifty five years.

He enjoyed watching sports, especially when the grandkids were playing, and was a big Dallas Cowboys fan.  Buford loved spending time with family and friends, telling jokes and stories, while sitting under the big oak “liars” tree or around the fire pit and also enjoyed country music.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and two daughters, Lettie Faye Allen and Shirley Stelly.

Buford is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Billie Allen of Brookeland; his daughters and their spouses, Brandy McMilian and Tony of Fannett, Kathleen Fore and Victor of Nederland, Christian Pirtle and John of LaBelle, and Amber Allen and Daniel of Vidor; his son, Johnny Allen and his wife, Diana of LaBelle; his brother, Tom Allen and his wife, Delores of Houston; grandchildren, Lindsey Allen, Matt Allen, Taylor Fore, Marissa McMilian and Tori McMilian; great grandchildren, Ranson Welch, Dylan Pitts, Dagan Pitts, Harleigh Pirtle and Callie Pirtle; and many close family members and friends.

His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 2, 2011, at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland, with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.  A gathering of his family and friends will be Sunday, May 1, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Broussard’s. 

Buford’s final days were spent surrounded by family and friends at the Harbor Hospice facility in Beaumont, Texas.  The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Harbor Hospice for their excellent care.
