Harold F. Meyer
September 27, 1924 - April 15, 2011

Harold F. Meyer, 86, passed away on April 15, 2011, at home surrounded by loving family and compassionate caregivers.

Born September 27, 1924, in Amana, Iowa to Marie Zimmerman Meyer and Fred Meyer, he was a resident of Beaumont since 1946.  Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Louisa Ackerman, grandson, Kyle Armbrister, son-in-law, Richard “Dick” Nicholson, and much beloved in-laws R.O. “Bill” and Helen Williams.

He met his wife of almost sixty-six years, Blanche Williams Meyer, while he was stationed in Galveston as a Corporal with the Army Air Corps during World War II and she was in nursing school at John Sealy.  They married in Colorado Springs on May 17, 1945, and moved to Beaumont to begin a thirty-eight year career with Mobil Oil.  After retirement from Mobil Oil in 1984, he spent sixteen much loved years with R.O. Williams Insurance Agency, retiring in 2000.  In addition to his career, he dedicated his life to his family, his church, and his community.  A member of St. Paul’s United Methodist church since 1946, he also served on the Mobil Oil Credit Union board for ten years, including a term as President.

Harold contributed countless volunteer hours and served as President for multiple terms as a member of the South Beaumont Lions Club, starting in 1961.  He is forever a member of the “GADS” club.  He loved making the best pancake breakfasts for family, daily crosswords, projects at their greatly missed beach house in Bolivar, dominos with the guys before work, reading, and time with family.

In addition to his loving wife Blanche, Harold is survived by his daughters, Ruth Ann Nicholson, and Nancy Armbrister and her husband Gary; grandchildren, Nicole Nicholson Alaniz and her husband Andres, Cody Armbrister and his wife Brooke, and Kinsey Armbrister Potter and her husband Kevin; and great grandchildren, Lucy and Penny Armbrister and Lucas Alaniz.  He is also survived by his brother, Henry and his wife Mildred Meyer; several nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.

A celebration of his life will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 4445 Pershing Street, Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.  A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Broussard’s.  A family committal will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium.

The family would like to express thanks for all the care, compassion, dignity and love given by his Odyssey Hospice team: Dominique, Carmen, Sharon, Christie, Tricia, and Mickie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Harold’s memory to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 4445 Pershing Street, Beaumont, Texas 77705 or to Odyssey Healthcare of Beaumont, 550 Fannin Street #1230, Beaumont, Texas 77701.

His legacy is a family loved deeply, hard work done well, and communities better for his having been a part of them.  He will be truly missed.
