Nelson Menard, Sr., 85, of Winnie died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at the Arboretum of Winnie.

He was born to Claybert and Ida Menard on February 1, 1926; Nelson lived all his life in the Winnie area and was a retired rice farmer.      

Nelson is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Evelyn Menard; sons, Glenn Menard and his wife Carolyn and Nelson Menard, Jr.; sister, Margaret LaFleur, all of Winnie; step-sons, John Fontenot and his wife Donna of Austin, Darrell Daigle and his wife Ava of Lufkin; step-daughter, Madolyn Cleveland of Winnie; grandchildren, Lynn Flemming, Glenn Menard, Jr., Benjamin Menard, Jason Menard, Ashley Daigle and Jessica Daigle; great-grandchildren, Anna Potter, Caleb J. Menard, Brittany Clements, Summer Menard, Caleb Menard, Brandon McDaniel, Tyler McDaniel, Benjamin Menard, Cody Menard, Chelsie Menard, Victoria Menard, and Courtland Menard; and great-great-grandchildren, Kash McDaniel and Kane McDaniel; and numerous relatives and friends.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2011, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 W. Buccaneer Drive with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s, 134 W. Buccaneer Drive in Winnie. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Broussard’s.
