Alfred "Preacher" L. Pool 
August 23, 1923 - March 24, 2011

Alfred L. “Preacher” Pool, 87, of Nederland, died Thursday, March 24, 2011.  He was born on August 23, 1923, to Dell Ruth Freeman and Spencer Jim Pool in Buna and had been a lifelong resident of the mid-county area.  Alfred was a retired repairman for Southwestern Bell and also was the first permanent repairman in Nederland.  He was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II.   Alfred also served in Ireland, France, Wales, Belgium, Germany and Czechoslovakia with the signal company, and was present in the Normandy invasion as well as battles in Northern France and Central Europe. 

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Pool of Nederland; daughter, Cynthia Pool Latiolais and her husband Dave of Gulf Shores, Alabama; son, Robert Bruce Pool and his wife Pearl of Port Neches; sister, Althea Leona “Kewpie” Hobbs of Vidor; and grandchildren, Melissa Latiolais, Spencer Latiolais and David Luke Pool. 

 

Alfred is preceded in death by his parents, Dell Ruth and Spencer Pool; and brother, H.S. “Skinny” Pool. 

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 130 Hardy Avenue, Nederland with burial to follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland.  A Christian Vigil will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a gathering of his family and friends to follow until 9:00 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2011, at Broussard’s.  Serving as pallbearers will be David Luke Pool, Spencer Latiolais, Jimmy LeBlanc, Jr., Jimmy Williams, Jesse LeBlanc, Jr., and Paul Pool. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Curtis LeBlanc, Rusty Pool, Kirk Hobbs and Buddy White.
