Billy Jack "Spud" Massey 
August 7, 1930 - March 6, 2011

Billy Jack “Spud” Massey, 80, of Port Acres, died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at his daughter’s residence.  Born August 7, 1930 in Nederland, he was the son of Amanda Pleasant Williams and Robert Hicks Massey, Sr. and had lived in the area until 1977 and then moved to Washington State and returned six years ago. He was a retired pipe welder for Local 195, having practiced the trade for fifty years.  Billy traveled all over the United States and lived in Hawaii for six years.  He loved fishing, gardening, back yard campfires, being outdoors in general, and most of all being in the company of his family.

 

He is survived by his daughters, Melody Fortenberry and Tammy Jones and her husband Joel, all of Port Acres; son, Kyle Massey and his wife Rachael of Beauxart Gardens; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. 

 

Billy is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert Massey, Ralph Massey, Jimmy Massey, Clyde Massey and Earl Massey; and sisters, Louise Sims and Ruby Haff.

 

A gathering of family and friends will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland. A private family service will be held at a later date.
