Harold S. Smith, 86, of Beaumont, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011, at Christus Dubuis Hospital of Beaumont with his family by his side.

A native of Lone Star, Texas, he was born September 12, 1924, to Mattie Velera Herod Smith and Albert S. Smith.  Harold graduated from Rusk High School in 1942.  Soon after, he began working at Thom McAn Shoe Store.  His time as a salesman and manager took him to stores in Houston, Port Arthur, and Beaumont. In 1957, his family moved to Beaumont and he worked in downtown Beaumont, the Village Shopping Center and Parkdale Mall.  He retired in 1987 after forty-five years of service.

He was a member of Dowlen Road Church of Christ where he served as a deacon.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Dorothy Mae Wallette Smith of Beaumont; daughter, Sherrie Ray and her husband Don; sons, Roger Smith and his wife Betsy and Glenn Smith and his wife Aimee all of Beaumont; grandchildren, Caitlin Smith, Carleigh Smith, Brittnie Smith and Lauren Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Hugh Smith and his wife Marquita; and grandson, Jonathan Thomas Smith.

His graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2011, at Jarratt Cemetery in Jacksonville, Texas under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.  A gathering of his family and friends will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Broussard’s.
