Jim Walker Whitmeyer

Jim Walker Whitmeyer, 81, of Bevil Oaks, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Harbor Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 12, 1929, in Rosedale, Texas to Leonce and Martha Pearl Whitmeyer. Jim graduated from Beaumont High School in 1946, and later went to work for Plummer Printing before entering the Army in 1952. He began working for Lamb Printing Company in 1954. In 1977 Jim opened his own printing business, Whitmeyer Printing Company of Bevil Oaks. He served as Mayor of Bevil Oaks from 1981-1983 and was very active in the Bevil Oaks Fire Department for twenty-eight years serving as Assistant Fire Chief. Jim was a charter member of First Baptist Church Bevil Oaks serving as deacon for forty-eight years. He loved working with the children, and Children’s Church was very special to him. Survivors include his loving wife of sixty years, Rachel Whitmeyer; daughters, Amy Olsen and her husband John and Kim Palculict and her husband Tim all of Bevil Oaks, Joy Bess and her husband Kyle and Sue Jones and her husband Luke all of Pinewood; grandchildren, Cari Peters, Chad Adams, Evan Adams, Laurel Olsen, Kent Palculict, Blake Palculict, Erin Palculict, Jacy Bickham, Cody Bess, Emily Ervin, Hunter Jones, and Andrea Jones; great grandchildren, Aiden Adams, Brodie Adams, Jonas Adams and Owen Haley Bickham; sister, Ruth Markwood; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ida Pearl Selman; and brothers, Jack Whitmeyer and Ernest Whitmeyer. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2011, at First Baptist Church Bevil Oaks, 7725 Sweetgum Road, Bevil Oaks. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with his six grandsons serving as pallbearers under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Broussard’s. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to First Baptist Church Bevil Oaks, 7725 Sweetgum Road, Beaumont, Texas 77713 or to Harbor Hospice, 2450 North Major Drive, Beaumont, Texas 77713. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Harbor Hospice for their loving care of their husband, daddy, and grandpa.
