Bill Orr, 83, of Nederland, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at his home. 

A native of Frederick, Oklahoma, Mr. Orr was born to Elbert B. Orr and Opal Williamson Orr on July 29, 1927. He married Nelda Pennington on September 20, 1946, in Vernon, Texas. Bill was a retired grocery worker with a total of fifty two-years in the business with his last twenty-nine years at Market Basket, having retired as a senior vice president of sales and marketing. Bill was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy, 1945-1946, and was active in his church, 7th Street Baptist.  Bill loved his family and his God.  He was very supportive of his grandchildren in their various school activities and adored his great granddaughter, Mykah.

Bill is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Nelda of Nederland; daughters, Jean Williams and her husband Jerry of Nederland and Teri Lane and her husband Milton “Corky” of South Carolina; grandchildren, Leanne Williams, Jordan King, John Covington and Cameron Covington, all of Nederland; and great granddaughter, Mykah of Nederland. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob Orr and Elbert Orr, Jr.; and sister, Rita Freeland.

His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2011, at 7th Street Baptist Church, 200 North 7th Street, Nederland with Pastor Kevin “Kicker” McWilliams officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2011, at Broussard’s.
