Frank Standley Swain, 85, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at Baptist Beaumont Hospitals of Southeast Texas in Beaumont. He was born December 8, 1925, to Verna Standley Swain and Frank Morris Swain at Sour Lake, Texas. His mother was a native of Lufkin, Texas and his father was a native of Abbeville, Louisiana. Frank attended Sour Lake schools and graduated in 1942, then attended Lamar Junior College until 1944. He served in the United States Army in France and Germany from 1944 to 1946. Returning home to Sour Lake, he worked with his father in the family business. In 1964 he began a career with The Lincoln National Life Insurance Company that lasted thirty-five years. At one time he served on the Sour Lake city council and later was a member of the Sour Lake School Board when it merged with the Nome and China school districts to form the Hardin-Jefferson school district. Frank was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, an active member of Beaumont Association of Life Underwriters for many years and a life member of the American Legion and the VFW.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Eva Swain of Beaumont; daughters, Sharon Swain Richard and her husband Randy of Sour Lake, Bonnie Gayle Swain of Beaumont and Brenda Swain Elliott and her husband Lee of Granbury and their mother, Betty Lois Swain of Beaumont; step-son, Raymond White Greer and his wife Pam of Sugar Land; grandchildren, Brittany Johnson and her husband Brian of Sour Lake, Shelley Ratcliff and her husband Jason of Wylie, Lesley Richard of Austin, Adam Richard of San Diego, California, Blake Elliott and his wife Katie of Valley Ranch, Dylan Hoffpauir and Dustin Hoffpauir both of Beaumont, Dana Payne of Phoenix, Arizona, Emily McClain and her husband Gordon of Conroe, Sarah Greer and Jonathan Greer both of Sugar Land; great-grandchildren, Traeger Johnson, Harper Johnson, Grace McClain, Ella McClain and MaryKate Ratcliff; longtime friend, Jim Noone; former daughter-in-law, Charlotte Hawkins; and numerous friends and family members.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Vernon Lamar Swain.
His graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 21, 2011, at Pine Ridge Cemetery, in Pine Ridge, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
