Dr. Loring Scott Wallace, of Beaumont, passed away peacefully at home Friday, January 14, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. Scott was born May 15, 1921, to Florence and Frank Wallace of Port Arthur. A 1939 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Scott went on to complete undergraduate studies at Tulane University in New Orleans and on to LSU Medical School which was also in New Orleans. A Navy veteran, Scott served as a flight surgeon in Florida during World War II. After his time in the Navy, he returned to New Orleans to begin his orthopedic residency at Charity Hospital. During his years in New Orleans, Scott acquired an avid passion for jazz music and the many fine cuisines of the region. He passed his love of life on to his family and friends who appreciated his refined tastes as well as his enjoyment of simple pleasures. A founding member of Beaumont Bone and Joint Institute, Scott began his practice of orthopedics in Beaumont in 1953. A gifted surgeon with a kind and gentle spirit, Dr. Wallace continues to inspire many within the Beaumont medical community and beyond with a long legacy of caring and healing. Scott was active in the community as past president of the staff at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth and Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas. He was a member of the Jefferson County Medical Society, Clinical Orthopedic Society, and the Western Orthopedic Society. Scott and Anne have been charter members of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church since 1954. Many thanks are due to the medical staff and caregivers who became involved in Scott’s care over the years. The family wishes to thank Pete St. Claire and Max Woods for their kind attention. Deep gratitude is offered to Professional Health Care for home health and hospice services which were such a comfort in Scott’s final days. The family also wishes to acknowledge Agnes Babin Bruno for her many years of loyal assistance and steadfast friendship. Scott is survived by his devoted wife, Anne; his five children, Scott Wallace, Margi Chase and her husband Rocky, Marilyn Bell and her husband Tom and John Wallace and his wife Ana all of Beaumont and Dr. Philip Wallace and his wife Carrie of Bend, Oregon; grandchildren, Ian Wallace, Andrew Wallace, Sterrett Bell, Ellen Wallace, Lexie Boudreaux, Margaret Wallace, Betsy Chase, Catherine Wallace, Loring Bell, Sarah Wallace, Scott Wallace and Audrey Wallace; as well four great grandchildren. His memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2011, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 1350 North 23rd Street, Beaumont with Dr. Harland Merriam officiating under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. A gathering of his family and friends will follow at the church. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Broussard’s.
