Agnes Henderson
December 28, 1913 - January 10, 2011 |
Annie Agnes Henderson affectionately known as “Tag” or “Aggie”, died Monday, January 10, 2011. She was born December 28, 1913, in Eliasville, Texas, the youngest of four children she was blinded in an accident at an early age. Never one to let her handicap stand in her way, she attended the Texas School for the Blind in Austin and Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in English. Agnes moved to Beaumont with her family in 1942 where she met William “Bill” V. Henderson. They were married on November 5, 1953, and were blessed with the birth of their only child Lester Douglas seventeen months later. She operated the Commission for the Blind concession stand in the Federal building in downtown Beaumont for many years. In 1984 she and Bill retired and spent the next years helping to raise their grandchildren. Aggie was a kind and loving mother and grandmother who was loved by all that knew her. Through her strong faith in the Lord her life was full of special relationships with family and friends. Her grand-nephew Forest Hamilton along with his wife Stormy and daughters Taylin Tag and Tinsley Dane were among those that shared a very special kinship with their “Tag”. She always welcomed you with her beautiful smile and warm wit. She will be greatly missed by everyone. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Elaine Henderson-Millar; grandchildren, William Douglas and his wife Rachel Louise Henderson, Jake Andrew Henderson, Zynetta Carol Morrow and her husband Matthew T. Morrow; her great grandchildren, Ava Louise Henderson, Ryan Andrew Morrow, Sarah Elaine Morrow, Emily Louise Morrow, and Aiden Patrick Morrow; and many other extended family members. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, William V. Henderson, parents, A.C. and Maude Bentley, son Lester Douglas Henderson, siblings, Ronald Ancil Bentley, William Kenneth “Jake” Bentley, and Bess Maude Hamilton. The family would like to thank Martha Petry, her staff and Professional Health Care, Home Health and Hospice. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery with William Henderson, Jake Henderson, Forest Hamilton, Matthew Morrow, Ryan Morrow, Jacob Bond, Wilton McKelvey, John Henderson, William Odom, and Robert Verde serving as pallbearers. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at Broussard’s. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial contributions to be made to the Lester D. Henderson Foundation for Youth, P.O. Box 7795, Beaumont, Texas 77726.
