Oladean "Honey" Tuttle Massey, 81, of Beaumont died Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home in Vidor. She was born December 2, 1929, along with twin sister Kathleen, to Herbert and Delphia Tuttle of Hunter, Arkansas. She was raised in Forest City, Arkansas and came to reside in Beaumont after WWII in1945. She later moved to Nederland and was a resident for over twenty years.
In 1970, she attended and graduated from Contra Costa College in Pleasant Hill, California and received her Licensed Vocational Nurse degree. She worked at Palomar Hospital in Escondido, California where she specialized in surgery. She was a devout Christian and refused to assist in abortions. In surgery, she became known as a praying nurse. After a period of time, hospital management told her she could no longer pray for patients that she was scaring them. She obeyed until shortly after when there were too many patient requests for the praying nurse. Management then allowed her to resume praying for patients. In 1986, she graduated from Rhema Bible College in Tulsa Oklahoma, and was ordained as a minister.
She is survived by her husband, Charles R. Massey of Beaumont; three children, Loretta Williams Waterbury and her husband Jim of Willis, John Henry Williams and his wife Patti of Vidor, and Vicki Williams McGill and her husband David; grandchildren, Tre' Arnold, Tekla Waterbury, Alisha Silver, Rebecca Garcia, J. W. Townsen; twelve great grandchildren; one great great grandson; sisters, Faye Rusow of Punta Gorda, Florida and Kathleen LaRiza of Vacaville, California.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Eileen Marzetta; and brother, Lester Werner.
Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland with Dr. John L. LaNoue officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Pt. Neches. A gathering of her family and friends will be Friday, January 7, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Broussard’s.
Serving as pallbearers will be Herbert Welch, Jim Waterbury, Tre' Arnold, J. W. Townsen, Michael Garcia, and Hayden Sullivan.
