Viva Lee Sturrock 
February 15, 1919 - December 18, 2010

Viva Sturrock, 91 of Nederland, died December 18, 2010 at Methodist Hospital in Houston.  Born February 15, 1919 in Mayfield, Oklahoma, Viva was the daughter of Eula Mae Scott and Frank Marcus Hargrove.  A resident of the area since 1960, she enjoyed going on mission trips with her church and was the Librarian at First Baptist Church in Nederland for thirty-five years.  She will be remembered for her sour balls and fudge at Christmas and she liked to crochet and sew.

 

Mrs. Sturrock is survived by her sons, Marc Helvie of Nederland and David Helvie and his wife Jan of Virginia Beach, Virginia; daughters, Correne Pierce and Shirley Westbrook both of Port Neches; sister, Glenna Lou Pribbenow of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Timaeus; grandchildren, Joseph Helvie, Michael Helvie, Raymond Helvie, Amy Nunn, Michelle Wyman, Erin Mundy, George Sturrock, Kay Lani, Kevin Maddox, and Angel Heartfield; great grandchildren, Sharon Nunn, Richard Wyman III, Marcus Helvie, Emma  Helvie, Dakota Helvie, Baby Helvie, Julia Mundy, Lucia Mundy, Watson Mundy, Viva Mundy, Alex Heartfield, Sidney Maddox, and Emma Maddox. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Russell Earl Helvie and Elmer Sturrock; son, Clayton Sturrock; brother, W. E. Hargrove; and sisters Pauline Anderson and Doris Carter.

 

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland.  Committal will be 4:00 p.m. at Sand Hill Cemetery in Colmesneil.  A gathering of family and friends will be on Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at Broussard’s.
