Joseph Lloyd “Joe” Caruthers, Jr., 76, of Hamshire, died Saturday, December 18, 2010 at his residence.

Joe was born and died on the land that has been in the Caruthers family for over one hundred years. He retired from Goodyear Chemical after thirty years of dedicated service. During and after active employment, Joe maintained his cattle and hay production, until September 2010. He also was skilled at carpentry, leaving his family with a home and many pieces of furniture, lamps and picture frames that will be cherished by his friends and heirs.

Joe is survived by his wife of forty three years, Jean Jones Caruthers of Hamshire; son, Joseph L. “Buck” Caruthers III and his wife Kristina of Leander; granddaughter, Darcy Helen Caruthers of Round Rock; two very special nieces, Johnlyn Lester and her husband Joe of Waller and Lara Tippett of New Braunfels; mother-in-law, Alfreida Lewis and her husband Walter of Winnie; brother-in-law, Tom M. Jones and his wife Kathy, of Paradise; and a host of friends, cousins and two daughters by choice, Christie Miller of Round Rock and Allyson Miller of Beaumont.

Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at Broussard’s Cemetery in Hamshire under the direction of Broussard’s, 134 W. Buccaneer Drive,  Winnie. A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, December 20, 2010, 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Broussard’s.
