Claude “C.J.” Sonnier, 81, of Hamshire, died Monday, December 13, 2010.  

He was born February 17, 1929 in Pine Island, Louisiana, to Agnes Leger and Zenon Sonnier.  C.J. has been a resident of Hamshire for fifty-nine years and worked many years as a rough neck in the oil industry and retired as a truck driver. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing pool with his friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Sonnier of Hamshire, sons, Robert Sonnier of Anahuac and Brett Sonnier and his wife Gail of Hankamer; daughters, Janet DeYoung and her husband Wayne of Stowell, Regina Harrington and her husband Doug of Augusta, Texas, Carolyn Beckom and her husband Matt of San Antonio; and Carlotta Dodson and her husband Carlos of Porter; sister, Rita Gerard of Alabama; twenty- one grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren, James Earl DeYoung, Eric Wayne DeYoung, Derrick Glenn DeYoung, Merrisa Kay Turner, Matthew Scott Sonnier, Samantha Cherie Sonnier, Cyndi Lynn Sonnier, Janice Marie Trevino, Holly Christine Clifton, Corey Dylan Beckcon, Joshua Stephen Beckcom, Krysti Lynn Beckcom, Shane Michael Clifton, Britanie Nicole Long, Stephanie Kristen Anderson, Ryan Carl Sonnier, Douglas Harrington, Jr., Dana Dearbonne, Jana Sonnier, Alisha Sonnier, Curtis Sonnier. Great Grandchildren;  Mattilyn Jean Anderson Kloe Bri Anderson, Jessica Alexis Trevino, Macyn Alexandra Trevino, Christopher David Trevino, Race Dearbonne, Cruz Dearbonne, Olivia Trahan, Alex Harrington, Jacie Hunter Simon, Treton Shia Simons, Bryce Eugene Parks, Shaydon Clifton and Bonnie Alyse DeYoung.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 W. Buccaneer Dr., Winnie with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s, 134 Buccaneer, Winnie.  A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, December 15, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., at Broussard’s.
