Shirley Ward, 76, of Nederland went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2010 at Silverado Senior Center in Houston. Born March 15, 1934 in Orange the daughter of Beulah Dickey and Marvin E. Cunningham, Shirley was a lifetime resident of the Golden Triangle and lived in Nederland since 1968. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Nederland and was actively involved, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. Shirley was a very creative and artistic individual who loved to sew, quilt, paint, arrange flowers and other kinds of crafts. She was a wonderful homemaker and a gracious hostess to many who entered the doors of her home. She loved her boys and was very involved in their lives.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Ward of 57 years. She is survived by her sons, Steve Ward and his wife Debbie of Cypress and Rodger Ward and his wife Darlyne of Bay City; brothers, Eldridge Cunningham of Houston and Dan Cunningham of Los Angeles, California; sisters, Odelle Sapp of Hawaii and Fran Aenchbacher of Round Rock; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Nederland with Pastor Adam Pardue officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday evening, November 13, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland.
