Sidney "Jackie" Uehlinger
December 22, 1918 - November 5, 2010

Sidney O. “Jackie” Stockard Uehlinger, 91, passed away in her sleep at Calder Woods on Friday, November 5, 2010. She was the widow of John A. "Jack" Uehlinger, and the daughter of John Sidney Stockard and Rosa Lee Vance Stockard of Denton.

Jackie had lived in Beaumont since 1958, and she and Jack were founding members of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church of Beaumont. Over the years, she served in a variety of lay positions within the church, including Sunday School teacher, service on the board of deacons and on the board of elders and President of the Women of the Church. Jackie was also a member of Beta Beta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority.

Born December 22, 1918, she was the third of the four Stockard daughters of Denton. She is survived by her sisters, Ruby Lee Stockard Douglass, Ola Mae Stockard Ewing, and Lucille Stockard, all of Lubbock. The family story holds that although her given name was Sidney, like her father, it was her father who first called her Jackie - when she was just a few hours old, and she was known as Jackie all of her life.

She was the Valedictorian of her class at Texas State College for Women (TSCW, now Texas Women's University) in Denton. Prior to her marriage, she worked for Gulf States Utilities introducing the then-new technology of electric cook stoves to homemakers in Navasota, various parts of East Texas and in Port Arthur. After her marriage, she devoted her attentions to her family and her church, and later in life, to her artwork.

Jackie was the mother of three daughters – Nina Betty Uehlinger Landolt, El Paso; Carole Uehlinger Bastian of Leesville, SC and Janna Uehlinger Caywood of Beaumont. She is also survived by her sons-in-law Dr. C. Dale Landolt, Jr., El Paso, and Dan Caywood of Beaumont; by eight grandchildren – Dr. Laura K. Landolt, Oxford, MI; Deborah H. Landolt, Columbus, OH; James E. Spell, St. Louis, MO; John M. Spell, Lenexa, KS; David R. Spell, Greenwood, SC; Spc. Eric D. Spell, US Army Reserves, DeSoto, MO; Amanda M. Caywood, Houston and Kelly E. Caywood, College Station; and by two great-grandchildren  - Ian Landolt, Columbus, OH and Xochitl Martinez of Oxford, MI. She loved all of her family very deeply.

Mrs. Uehlinger’s funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Beaumont with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.  A gathering of her family and friends will be Monday, November 8, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

The family requests memorials be sent to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 1350 North 23rd Street, Beaumont, Texas  77706.
