Geneva “Genny” Beard, 95, of Nederland, died Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Cypress Glen Nursing & Rehabilitation in Port Arthur.

She was born January 14, 1915, in Port Arthur, Texas to Eva Johnson and Noil Sweeney, and lived in Beaumont until 1977 before moving to Palestine. She then returned to Nederland in 1989. Geneva was retired from the White House Department Store in Beaumont after twenty-three years of service.

Geneva is survived by her nieces, Belva Charles of Nederland and Linda Howard of Ennis, Texas; nephew, Jerry Shirley of Nederland and numerous great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of fifty years, Jonathan H. Beard; and two sisters, Mary Hines and Eunice Vinsy.

Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland with burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.  A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at Broussard’s.
