Shirley Ann Schkade 
June 22, 1939 - September 19, 2010

Shirley Ann Schkade was born June 22, 1939, in Port Arthur, Texas and went to be with her Lord on September 19, 2010. 

 

She was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and also Lamar University in Port Arthur. Shirley was employed by the City of Port Arthur, Diamond M Oil Drilling and Texaco, Inc. of Houston, Texas. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the early age of forty-five she took an early retirement from Texaco.

 

She was a member of the Lutheran Church in Houston, Beta Sigma Phi, the Houston Drama Club and she also volunteered for many of the local Houston charities. Shirley dearly loved her family and cherished the things they did together. Their love and support meant everything to her. She enjoyed reading, gardening, dancing and spending time with her cats, Sheba and Morris. Her disease did not stop her from doing the things she liked the most, such as traveling which she did extensively throughout Europe. Her greatest love was that of classical music and had been told that she could have likely been a candidate to be accepted into the Julliard School of Music.

 

Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, September 23, 2010, at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s in Winnie.

 

Shirley is survived by her brothers, Glenn Schkade and his wife Doris of Groves, Ronnie Schkade and his wife Phyllis of Houston  and Harold Schkade and his wife Susan of Port Neches; sister, Carolyn Costa of Houston and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schkade and niece, Ashley Schkade.
