Ann C. Smith, 95, of Sour Lake, died Sunday, September 5, 2010, peacefully at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. Born December 22, 1914, in Montreal, Canada to Eddie K. Nance and Charles N. Bentley; Ann had been a resident a lifelong resident of Sour Lake and was a retired school teacher from Hardin-Jefferson Independent School District after twenty-five years of service. She served the Sour Lake First United Methodist Church, Women’s Club, Library Board, Cemetery Board and other various organizations in Sour Lake. She enjoyed keeping the church grounds and intersection flowers beds free of weeds. Survivors include her sons, Gerald B. “Gerry” Smith of Crosby and James R. “J.R.” Smith of Smithville; daughter, Suzanne Day of Crosby; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick D. Smith; parents; two brothers; and one sister. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont with burial to follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Sour Lake. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Broussard’s. A reception will be Thursday at First Methodist Church, 615 6th Street in Sour Lake following the service at the cemetery.
