Mildred “Curly” Spears Murphy, 74, of Honey Island died Sunday, August 29, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center in Lufkin.  Mildred was born August 14, 1936, in Honey Island to Claude and Ella (Jackson) Singletary.  A resident of Segno for ten years, she retired as a convenience store clerk and was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Honey Island.

Survivors include her children, Elaine Spears Kellum and her husband Charles of Honey Island, Lanell Dugat and her husband Larry of Segno, Wayde Spears of Honey Island, and Belinda Rice of Livingston; sister, Velma “Bunk” Cross of Batson; twelve grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Larry A. Spears; two brothers; and one sister.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Broussard’s, 530 W. Monroe, Kountze with burial to follow at Jordan Cemetery in Honey Island.  A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday, August 31, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at Broussard’s.
