Joyce Duke-Serres, 80, of Buna, died Friday, August 27, 2010, at Harbor Hospice House in Beaumont. Graveside service will be 11 A.M. Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston under the direction of Broussard’s in Nederland. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 8 P.M., Monday, August 30, 2010 at Broussard’s in Nederland. Mrs. Serres was a native of Falls County, Texas and spent her formative years in the Aldine area of Houston graduating from Aldine High School in 1947. She then moved to Nederland in 1956 before moving to Buna in 1989. She was retired from Port Neches-Groves ISD after many years of service as an elementary school teacher. She enjoyed camping and will be remembered for her deep affection and love for all her family. Mrs. Serres is survived by her husband of sixty years, Melvin Serres of Buna; sons, Mike Serres and his wife Christine of Buna and Chris Serres and his wife Cindy of Beaumont; daughter, Peggy Griffin and her husband Mark of Nederland; grandchildren, Justin and Alysia Serres, HN Devan Serres, USN, Scott and Mandy Griffin, Kayse and Michael Gunter, Destiny LeBlanc, Ashley Serres and Zac Highlander; great-grandchildren, Cyrus Griffin, Jace and Victoria Mattingly, Remington LeBlanc, Grace and Ava Root and Ryan Highlander; brother, Weldon Duke and his wife Ann of Shiner and her best friend, Hazel Hooks. She was preceded in death by her parents Louis I. and Virgie Duke. The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring staff and nurses at Harbor Hospice House and is asking, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Serres’ memory be directed to Harbor Hospice Foundation 2450 N.
