James “Jimmy” LaPoint, 67, of Port Arthur, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral service is scheduled for 10 A.M. Saturday, August 21, 2010 in the chapel of Broussard’s in Nederland with Pastor Carl Durden officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Friday, August 20, 2010 at the mortuary.
Mr. LaPoint enjoyed swimming and was a third degree black belt in Karate. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of Crossroads Fellowship in Nederland. He will be remembered as a man who felt at home sitting down for a meal surrounded by his family and friends. Mr. LaPoint had the unique privilege of traveling extensively internationally during his forty-three year career as a mechanical draftsman.
Mr. LaPoint is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Diane LaPoint of Port Arthur; daughters, Kimber McCrory and her husband Don of Rockport, Dana Donald of Austin, Heather Kaiser and her husband James of Port Arthur and Holly Hughes and her husband John of Nederland; sons, Daymon LaPoint and his wife Cynthia of Nederland and Kelly La Point of Nederland; grandchildren, Matthew, Sasha, Kambri, Nicole, Caitlyn, Dakota, Jordan, Samantha, Hannah, Lauryn, Grant and Jinn; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Bailey. Also survived by his sisters, Gay Nell Marcontel of Nederland and Peggy Bailey and her husband James of Nederland.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial account has been established in Mr. LaPoint’s memory at DuPont Goodrich Federal Credit Union, 4008 N. Twin City Hwy., Nederland, Texas 77627, account # 7012592.
