Fred Greer Hayslette 
January 7, 1926 - August 7, 2010

Fred Greer Hayslette, 84, of Nederland, died Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Christus Hospital St. Mary in Port Arthur.

 

He was born January 7, 1926, in Woodlawn, Alabama to Marguerete Greer and Charles Eugene Hayslette, Sr.; and had lived in Nederland since 1930.  Fred was retired from Gulf Oil after thirty-five years of service and was a United States Navy veteran having served in World War II.

 

He was a member of St. Charles Parish and was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus in Nederland with a Life membership. Fred was also an American legion forty-five year Life member, Fraternal Order of Eagles with twenty-three years and was a VFW Life member.

 

Survivors include his sons, Fred H. Gray and his wife Cynthia of Nederland, Robert Hayslette and his wife Teresa of Port Neches and Charles Hayslette of Fort Worth; daughters, Charlette Gundelach and her husband Gordy of Columbus, Sharmaine Hoffpauir and her husband Trey of Nederland; nine grandchildren, Quinn Gray and his wife Carolyn, Thomas Hayslette, Kevin Hayslette and his wife Courtney, Chrissy Decuir Fleming and her husband Matt, Michael Gundelach, Chuck Hayslette, Elliott Gundelach, Meaghan Gundelach and Bryce Hoffpauir; and five great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jo Hayslette; daughter, Kathy Clark; and grandson, Christopher Hayslette.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland with Reverend David Placette officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited by the Knights of Columbus at 6:00 p.m. Monday, August 9, 2010, at Broussard’s.
