Teresa Hanson Burns
May 28, 1963 - August 1, 2010 |
Teresa was born in North Dakota and spent most of her childhood in Dallas. She attended Texas A&M University in College Station, and then proceeded to travel the world. Teresa did many things including a time as a radio DJ, TV weather person, later owned a bar on the island of Guam and even spent time as a merchant marine and pastry chef aboard a ship based in Diego Garcia. After her travels, she returned home to north Texas and went back to work in Dallas radio and TV, finally hosting a late night "after hours" television show about the city's nightlife. During that time she met a man who swept her off her feet to the town of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Brian Burns married Teresa a year later in 1999 and they began their lives together. Teresa continued her work in radio and TV while Brian continued his career as a television newsman. They made a brief stop in Lafayette, Louisiana and later made their home in Beaumont. Just before leaving Lafayette, Teresa gave birth to a beautiful baby girl she agreed to name after her husband. Abrianna Marie Burns celebrated her 6th birthday just before her mother's passing. Shortly after Mardi Gras 2009, Teresa was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. Teresa finally began her dream job as a radio talk show host in December of 2009 at KSET in Beaumont. On Sunday, August 1, just after 10:00 p.m., Teresa lost her struggle against the disease. She suffered no pain and was surrounded by family and friends. Teresa is survived by her husband, Brian Burns of Beaumont; her daughter, Abby Burns of Beaumont; her mother, Sandra Hanson of Carrollton; her father, Dan Hanson of Dallas; her sister, Christine Hanson of Dallas; her brother, Eric Hanson, his wife Lisa and their children, Nicholas Hanson and Keena Hillard all of Carrollton. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 5, 2010, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont, with a Christian Vigil at 7:00 p.m. A private committal will follow at Broussard's Crematorium. |
