Loyd “Scooter” Tracy Ray, Jr., 77, of Beaumont, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2010, at The Oaks of Beaumont Nursing Home. He was born on June 27, 1933, in Hallettsville, Texas, the eldest son of Sonora Hudgeons Ray and Loyd T. Ray, Sr. After attending school, Scooter worked as a cotton farmer, then as a rice farmer. He was a hard working, kind hearted, gentle person who was loved by all who knew him. Survivors include his three sisters, Ida Mae Rogers, Helen Wilt and Johnnie Irene Ray; nine brothers, Sidney Wayne and his wife Mary of Hector, Arkansas, Len Ross and his wife Flo of Millican, Sammie and his wife Sally of Beaumont, Jim and his wife Obdulia of Houston, Howard and his wife Linda of Houston, Charles and his wife Terry of Bryan, Marvin and his wife Linda of Houston, Wes and his wife Linda of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Ken and his wife Debbie of Beaumont; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Scooter was preceded in death by his parents; his three sisters, Edith Merle, Leona Nadine, and Ima Deloris King. Scooter will be missed by all who knew him. His funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Old Hardin Cemetery in Kountze. A gathering of his family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday until time of service at Broussard’s.
