Ann Dickinson Jones
November 14, 1924 - July 18, 2010 |
Ann Dickinson Jones, 85, long time Beaumont resident went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 18, 2010. Mrs. Jones was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and was one of three daughters. All three were graduates of the University of Arkansas. Ann received a Masters degree in Business Administration there as well. She served in the United States Navy during World War II, having volunteered to assist in the effort against the Axis. Ann married her lifetime partner, Thomas F. Jones in 1947. Both decided to devote their lives to education. And so, the journey began. After short stays in Arkansas and west Texas, they moved to Beaumont in the 1950's to establish what would become their permanent home. Mrs. Jones began her collegiate career in 1957 at Lamar University as an instructor. She taught marketing, introduction to business, and some early computer language. She prospered there and ended as a professor in the school of business until her retirement in 1994. She was active in all aspects of church life including Sunday school teacher, choir, Bible study, missions, and countless other services. Later in life she brought people to church who had no transportation. Other than family, her three passions were writing, home crafts, and supporting the Houston Astros baseball team. She had a gift of communicating clearly with humorous anecdotes. We will miss those notes and letters. Mrs. Jones possessed several attributes that made her memorable. Honesty, faith, integrity, discipline, and a good sense of humor were just a few. She will be missed. She is survived by two sons, Thomas F. Jones of Huntsville, and Timothy D. Jones of Sour Lake; her sister, Lou Alice Pense; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren (and one on the way); plus many nephews and nieces. Ann Jones was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, neighbor, and friend. She was who we all turned to for wise counsel and assurance. She looked for the best qualities in everybody. Scripture - "For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "no" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope - the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ." Titus 2, verses 11 through 13 (NIV) A Memorial Life Celebration will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, July 30, 2010, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 1350 N. 23rd Street, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. For those unable to attend, the family will be available to greet and visit with you Thursday, July 29, 2010, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in the church parlor.
