Thornton James (Jim) Lewis, 79 of Nederland, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Dubius Hospital in Port Arthur. Service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at Broussard’s in Nederland with Reverend Jim Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont. A gathering of family and friends will held at Broussard’s in Nederland, Thursday evening from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Jim was born in Greenwich, Kansas on August 26, 1930 to Rollie and Gladys Coin Lewis. He graduated from East High School in Denver, Colorado and then served in the United States Navy from 1948 until 1952 aboard the Renville 227 and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. He has lived in Nederland for fifty-five years and had worked for National Cash Register for thirty six years. He worked on the first computer in the area. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Rollie and Gladys Lewis; sister, Evelyn Lewis Weinbrenner; daughter, Julia Lewis; brothers, R.J. Lewis and Buddy L. Lewis; He is survived by his wife, Jesslyn (Ford) Taylor Lewis of Nederland; daughters, Jamie Tanner of Carrollton and Joni Hanley and husband, Mitch of Winnie; son, Bradley Lewis and wife, Erin of Nederland; grandchildren, Keli Tanner Caraveo and husband, Gabriel of Dallas, Todd Tanner and wife, Sheri of Lumberton, Josh Tanner and wife, Summer of Nederland, Jared Ty Smith of Lumberton, Colt Smith and wife, Kara of Nederland, Jamey, Ryan, Matthew and Caleb Lewis all of Nederland. Great-grandchildren, Brady Tanner, Hannah Tanner, Benjamin Caraveo, Koby and Cooper Smith. Niece,Debra Seibert and husband, Mike of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nephew, Steven Weinbrenner of Indiana. |
