On Sunday, July 4, 2010, Ted Caffarel, 59, of Beaumont, died from injuries suffered in a plane crash while attempting to make an emergency landing piloting an air ambulance in West Texas.
A native of White Castle, Louisiana, he was born January 30, 1951, to Earline Howard Caffarel and Theodore Joseph “TJ” Caffarel. Ted graduated from University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana- Lafayette) with a degree in Business. A man of many talents, he was a successful business owner, salesman, developer and pilot.
Ted was an avid hunter and cook, and enjoyed a variety of other hobbies to include photography, mountain biking, and snow skiing. Extremely outgoing, he never met a stranger; yet people always knew exactly where they stood with him. Ted refused to back down from duties or challenges that came his way, and was a diehard proponent of realistic thought and action. Ted was always there for family and friends in need, be it with open hands, a plate of red beans and rice or words of encouragement. Ted never passed up a heated political debate, but always ended one with a handshake or hug.
Survivors include his son, T. Wade Caffarel of Montgomery; daughter, Kristie Caffarel of Beaumont; four grandchildren; his mother, Earline Howard Caffarel of White Castle, Louisiana; brother, James Caffarel of Greensboro, North Carolina; and sister, Sandi Heidelberg of Beaumont.
His father, Theodore Joseph “TJ” Caffarel preceded him in death.
His memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont.
