Edward John Dugat 
October 3, 1921 - June 24, 2010

Edward John Dugat, 88, of Winnie died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Arboretum of Winnie.

 

A lifetime resident of Winnie, he was born October 3, 1921, to John Floyd and Ada Bond Dugat who preceded him in death.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Winnie-Stowell.

 

Edward John was a member of a rice farming and ranching family and served in the United States Army in World War II.  After returning from the service, he and his brother formed Dugat Brothers and continued rice farming and ranching until their retirement.  In 1991, they were named Pioneer Farmers of The Year by the Texas Rice Festival.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, June 28, 2010, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive in Winnie with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.  A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday at Broussard’s.

 

Edward John was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine years, Mary Sutphen Dugat, who was the Justice of Peace, Precinct 1, Chambers County for nineteen years.

 

He is survived by one brother, Euel Bond Dugat of Winnie, sister, Letha Floyd Dugat Burr and her husband Perry of Winnie, nephew, Dennis Floyd Dugat and his wife Sarita of Winnie; nieces, Carolyn Devillier Cormier and her husband Rodney of Winnie, Catherine Devillier Good and her husband Don of North Carolina and Judith Pelt Glover of Sour Lake and other nieces and nephews.
