Jeraldine "Jerry" Brammer Matthews 
August 10, 1932 - June 11, 2010

Jeraldine “Jerry” Brammer Matthews, 77, of Sour Lake, died Friday, June 11, 2010, after a long illness at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont.

 

Jerry was born August 10, 1932, to Rose (Migues) Sheppard and C. Olen Brammer.  She was a 1951 graduate from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur.  Jerry lived in Nederland and South Jefferson County until 2000, and then moved to Sour Lake.  She sold real estate for Hanks, Harrison and Du Perier Real Estate.  Jerry also worked at Glass Drug Store, Hanks & Cambridge Pharmacies. She was a long time member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland and Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sour Lake.

 

She enjoyed being a homeroom mother and assistant Cub Scout Leader. Jerry had many hobbies including fishing, wood carving and crafts.

 

She loved spending time with her family, young and old, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend.

 

Survivors include her husband of fifty-five years, James “Sonny” Matthews; daughters, Michaelene Green and her husband Donald of Hixson, Tennessee, and Jackie Lynn Bennett and her husband Lyle of Dunbar, West Virginia; son, Lawrence J. Matthews of Nederland; grandchildren, Christopher B. Cox of Hixson, Tennessee, Thomas J. Matthews and Jeremiah L. Matthews both of Nederland, Tiffany Sadler and her husband Ben, Derrick Bennett all of Dunbar, West Virginia, and Regina Hoffpauir of Lumberton; great grandchildren, Alexis Cox and Amber Cox both of Hixson, Tennessee, Caleb M. Matthews of Nederland and Cameron Amos of Port Arthur.

 

She is preceded in death by her son, Dennis Marc Matthews; father, C. Olen Brammer; and her mother, Rose (Migues) Sheppard.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sour Lake with burial to follow at Rosedale Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.  A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Christian Vigil at 6:00 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2010, at Broussard’s.
