Bernard Neill Carlson, 63, of Spring, Texas, formerly of Beaumont, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at his residence in Spring. A native of Tyler, Neill was born May 27, 1947, to Ruby McCrary and Roger Carlson. He was a United States Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War. Neill served in the Army’s White House Communications Agency and remained active in its alumni association, the 1600 Communications Association. He volunteered as a docent at the Battleship Texas and enjoyed photography. Survivors include his wife of forty years, Julie Carlson of Spring; son, Roger Carlson of Coppell, Texas; daughters, Daphne Carlson Bremer and her husband Andrew Bremer of Davis, California and Samantha Carlson of Addison, Texas; mother, Ruby Carlson of Beaumont; brother, Tommy Carlson and his wife Wadine Carlson of Beaumont; nephew, Richard Carlson of Beaumont; and niece, Denege French of China. His father, Roger Carlson preceded him in death. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 6825 Gladys Avenue, Beaumont. His graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Christian Vigil will be at 4:00 p.m. with a gathering of his family and friends until 6:00 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2010, at Broussard’s. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fisher House Foundation, Inc., 111 Rockville Pike, Suite 420, Rockville, Maryland 20850-5168, (www.fisherhouse.org), which “provides humanitarian support to members of the United States Armed Forces and their families.”
